As part of the City’s initiative with Vision Zero, right turn channels are being eliminated. Intersections across the City with the highest pedestrian and vehicles numbers are being addressed first.
Older intersections were designed, or perhaps just evolved, when standards regarding safety were not a priority.
We now understand that “right turn channels” which allow vehicles to turn right prior to signal lights (such as the situation on the north-west corner of Warden and Clonmore) are not as safe (especially for pedestrians) as intersections without these turning channels.
I have directed Transportation to investigate and reconfigure Clonmore and Warden. Reconfiguration will be a major undertaking as significant City infrastructure must be relocated and there are numerous engineering and technical challenges which require addressing.
In the meantime please take every precaution when navigating this intersection.
